Expedition Finse in Norway

EN: I went in Norway to attend Expedition Finse. The small (hence great) festival is packed with great explorers, adventurers and snow. I've met several people I've been in touch with for years and also nice guys I have never heard about it. On the (1-8) photos: Where I decided to sleep, Tom and Tina Sjogren (founder Explorersweb), Alexander Gamme, Hakon Erlandsen, The team of the Lance who picked up Mike Horn and Borge Ousland, Irish Rory Golden who does amazing shipwreck diving (Titanic, recopery of Apollo parts), a bottle of Shackleton Whisky, Polar Explorer Bengt Rotmo receiving the Shackleton award (a James Caird replica).
In Oslo I visited the Kon-tiki museum (Thor Heyerdahl) and the ski museum where I saw the North Pole solo expedition sled of Borge Ousland.

FR: Je suis allé en Norvège pour participer à l'Expédition Finse. Ce petit festival (donc super) est rempli de grands explorateurs, d'aventuriers et de neige. J'ai rencontré plusieurs personnes avec qui je suis en contact depuis des années et aussi des gars sympas dont je n'ai jamais entendu parler. Sur les (1-8) photos : Là où j'ai décidé de dormir, Tom et Tina Sjogren (fondateur d'Explorersweb), Alexander Gamme, Hakon Erlandsen, l'équipe du Lance qui a récupéré Mike Horn et Borge Ousland, l'Irlandais Rory Golden qui fait des plongées incroyables sur des épaves (Titanic, recopies de pièces d'Apollo), une bouteille de whisky Shackleton, l'explorateur polaire Bengt Rotmo recevant le prix Shackleton (une réplique du James Caird).
À Oslo, j'ai visité le musée Kon-tiki (Thor Heyerdahl) et le musée du ski où j'ai vu le traîneau de l'expédition solo du pôle Nord de Borge Ousland.

Les engagés avec Thomas Tirtiaux

EN: I listened to Thomas Tirtiaux who with 2 other friends did a cold trek in the dark to Cape North. Hell launch soon a crowdfunding campaign to produce a 26min film about this expedition.

FR: J'ai écouté Thomas Tirtiaux qui, avec deux autres amis, a fait une randonnée dans le froid et dans l'obscurité jusqu'au Cap Nord. L'enfer va bientôt lancer une campagne de financement de la foule pour produire un film de 26 minutes sur cette expédition.

Tree planting event with the Jane Goodall Institute

EN: Another tree planting event with the Jane Goodall Institute Belgium. I wanted to plant hundreds of trees but the soil contained many roots and rocks. Only 54 but on the whole day around 18000 trees were planted on 3 sites in Belgium. And more than a million will be planted in Burundi.

FR: Un autre événement de plantation d'arbres avec l'Institut Jane Goodall de Belgique. Je voulais planter des centaines d'arbres mais le sol contenait beaucoup de racines et de roches. Seulement 54 mais sur toute la journée, environ 18 000 arbres ont été plantés sur 3 sites en Belgique. Et plus d'un million d'arbres seront plantés au Burundi.

Guirec Soudee et monique la poule en conférence

 

EN: Two evenings of films about sailing at the Into the Blue festival. I finally met Guirec Soudée and his hen Monique. They sailed around the globe with the North West passage, a Greenland overwintering and visiting Antarctica. In the top 50 of adventure films I have seen. A deserved standing ovation from the Brussels crowd.

FR : Deux soirées de films sur la voile au festival Into the Blue. J'ai enfin rencontré Guirec Soudée et sa poulet Monique. Ils ont fait le tour du monde avec le passage du Nord-Ouest, un Groenland qui hiverne et visite l'Antarctique. Dans le top 50 des films d'aventure que j'ai vus. Une ovation méritée de la part de la foule bruxelloise.

The Last Overland expedition in Brussels

 

EN: In 1955 a team of Land Rover cars drove from the UK to Singapore. One of those cars has been found recently and drove back to the UK and did a stop in Brussels where I could meet the team.

FR: En 1955, une équipe de véhicules Land Rover roula du Royaume-Uni à Singapour. L'une de ces voitures a été retrouvée récemment et est retournée au Royaume-Uni. Elle s'est arrêtée à Bruxelles où j'ai pu rencontrer l'équipe.

Cité Aventuriers à Paris

 

EN: J'ai été à Paris pendant 2 jours voir Cité Aventuriers, cela m'a permis d'en rencontrer une bonne vingtaine dont Bouchra Baibanou, première Marocaine sur l'Everest. On était tous curieux du tonneau dans lequel Jean-Jacques Savin à traversé l'Océan Atlantique.

FR: I went to Paris for 2 days to see Cité Aventuriers, that allowed me to meet about twenty of them, including Bouchra Baibanou, the first Moroccan woman on Everest. We were all curious about the barrel in which Jean-Jacques Savin crossed the Atlantic Ocean.

GLEX Global Exploration Summit Lisbon 2019

EN: I was several days In Lisbon to attend the first GLEX or Global Exploration summit co-organized by the Explorers Club. We celebrated the 500 years of the first circumnavigation of Magellan and the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. I was happy to meet tens of explorers from around the globe. A few names like Fabien Cousteau, Bertrand Piccard, George Kourounis, Tim Jarvis, Victor Vescovo or Don Walsh.

FR: J'étais à Lisbonne pendant plusieurs jours pour assister au premier sommet GLEX ou Global Exploration co-organisé par le Club des Explorateurs. Nous avons célébré les 500 ans du premier tour de Magellan et le 50e anniversaire du premier alunissage.  J'étais heureux de rencontrer des dizaines d'explorateurs du monde entier.  Quelques noms comme Fabien Cousteau, Bertrand Piccard, George Kourounis, Tim Jarvis, Victor Vescovo ou Don Walsh.

Outdoor by ISPO 2019

EN: I was at the first edition of OUTDOOR by ISPO in Munich. Radu Paltineanu from Romania won the European Adventurer of the year 2018. (So not me this time). I saw Apa Sherpa who I had met on Everest BaseCamp in 2009 so ten years ago. I checked out the products and also this Mink Camper that can be rented. I'd like to build my own TinySomething more comfortable but still very small.

FR: J'ai participé à la première édition d'OUTDOOR by l'ISPO à Munich. Le Roumain Radu Paltineanu a remporté le prix de l'Aventurier européen de l'année 2018. (Donc pas moi cette fois-ci). J'ai vu Apa Sherpa que j'avais rencontré au camp de base de l'Everest en 2009, il y a donc dix ans. J'ai vu des produits et aussi ce Mink Camper que l'on peut louer. J'aimerais construire mon propre TinySomething, plus confortable mais toujours très petit.

Le Bourget Paris Mars Spacesuit

EN: I went to the Bourget airshow in Paris to meet my friend Cameron Smith. In front of stand his was were Thomas Pesquet and François Gabart speaking comparing the extremes of space and ocean challenges.

FR: Je suis allé au salon du Bourget à Paris pour rencontrer mon ami Cameron Smith. Devant le stand il y avait Thomas Pesquet et François Gabart qui comparaient les extrêmes des défis de l'espace et de l'océan.

Nicolas Hulot et l'environnement

EN: Ex-adventurer, ex-TV presenter for the show Ushuaia and ex-minister of the environment, Nicolas Hulot still is raising the alarm doing conference and urge us to do better for the environment.

FR: Ancien aventurier, ancien présentateur de télévision pour l'émission Ushuaia et ancien ministre de l'environnement, Nicolas Hulot continue de tirer la sonnette d'alarme et de nous exhorter à faire mieux pour l'environnement.
