Summit of Margherita peak in the Rwenzori - Uganda

EN: This is 7 March last week, Roland Monsegu (based in Ireland CaminoWays.com) and I with our two guides (Samuel, Edson) reached the summit of Uganda. I was recruited by the editor of the Inflight magazine of Brussels Airlines to write about this climb for the May issue.

FR: Le 7 Mars, semaine dernière, Roland Monsegu (Franco-Irlandais de CaminoWays.com) et moi-même avons atteint le sommet de l'Ouganda (et RDC). J'ai été attitré par BrusselsAirlines (BA) pour écrire un article sur ce trek et ascension. Ce sera publié dans le magazine Inflight de BA en Mai.

For this trip I used the Berghen Karakorum trekking boots They were completely waterproof against the mud and the water. After the trip they still looked brand new. Excellent European made quality.

I attended the CANON experience lab in Brussels and discussed with nature and wildlife photographer Michel d'Oultremont and director Bernard Crutzen. Below some of their work.

Hallerbos in blossom

EN: I cycled to Hallerbos to photography the Blue Forest. I had not used my Canon 450D DSLR since 2012 as the autofocus in broken and in expedition I need to be quick, no time to take other shots. Here I took the time to shot manually. No photoshop and no filters. You can see more Blue Forest Hallerbos photos on my facebook page including 360 degrees photography shot my the Panono camera.

FR: J'ai roulé à vélo jusqu'au bois de Halle pour photographier la Forêt Bleue. Je n'avais pas sorti mon Reflex Canon 450D depuis 2012 car l'autofocus est naze; et en expédition, je dois être rapide, pas le temps pour prendre plusieurs photos. Ici, j'ai pu prendre le temps de tout faire en manuel. Pas de photoshop ni filtre. Back from Clipperton island

 

 

EN: The Cordell expedition to Clipperton island TX5K was a success. Radio operators made over 113.000 contacts all around the world. I learned a lot about the island, its ecosystem and past history. I was there to film, to perform scientific observations and collect sand samples. Already 5 foraminifera were found in the samples. The species were never reported on the island before. I had the opportunity to kayak round the lagoon of Clipperton, do some air photography using a KiteCam. You can read the blog of the expedition here or even see me quickly on CBS. To explain that video, the team was receiving food from the boat excepting on days the waves or surf was too dangerous for the zodiacs to come in, so during 2 days we received almost nothing and had to use emergency food and ration water. The fun part is that we had several beercans, which can be considered as fluid+meal. I have some photos here; and yes there is a lot of plastic garbage on the island. The plastic continents or garbage gyres are surely real, I've seen it with my eyes now.

FR: L'expédition Cordell à l'île de Clipperton TX5K fût un succès. Les radioamateurs ont réalisé plus de 113.000 contacts autour de la planète. J'ai appris beaucoup à propos de l'île, son écosystème et son histoire. J'ai filmé, réalisé des observations scientifiques et collecté des échantillons de sable. On y a déjà trouvé 5 espèces de foraminifères. Jamais on en avait découvert sur l'île. J'ai eu la chance de pouvoir faire le tour du lagon en kayak, de prendre des clichés photo via cerf-volant. Vous pouvez leire le blog de l'expédition ou me voir brièvement sur CBS. Pour expliquer cette vidéo, l'équipe recevait une fois par jour de la nourriture et de l'eau à partir du bateau; sauf lorsque cela était trop dangereux pour les zodiacs pour passer à travers les vagues et la houle. Les Allemands avaient apporté de la bière ce qui complétait (un repas complet) nos rations de survies. Quelques photos; et oui il y a énormément de déchets plastiques qui échouent sur Clipperton. Les continents plastiques sont une réalité, je l'ai vu des déchets dériver de mes yeux.

New Panoramic Photo record

ENG: My last BIG 57.3 Megapixel Panoramic Photo has been beaten. I'm busy doing the panoramics photos of the Himalayas from the Chocolate Sherpa expedition. New record is now is 85 Megapixels coming from 24 photos of 12 mpix each.

FRA: Je viens de battre mon record de taille de grande photo panoramique. Le précédent record était de 57.3 megapixels. La nouvelle a été tirée dans l'Himalaya lors de mon expédition Chocolate Sherpa. Elle est composée de 24 photos de 12 mégapixels et fait à présent 85 mégampixels.

Back from Everest expedition

ENG: Well, I'm back to work after a week of sickness after my 1 month in Nepal. I'm already starting to plan my expeditions for the next 2 years. But here are some photos taken mainly in Everest Base camp. I met there Apa Sherpa, who just climbed Everest for the 19th time yesterday (no one has climbed that peak so much). Next to us is Joseph from my "Chocolate Sherpa expedition" Unfortunately N. became affected with AMS (Altitude Mountain Sickness) and had to turn back and go down just 2 hour from the base camp. I experienced AMS as well 3 days before him, but I got more lucky and could finish my walk I had started in Katmandu. I walked over 400 km and our team organized the highest chocolate tasting in the world to raise funds for the Nepal Mobile Hospital project. It was of course Belgian chocolate and the new super antioxydant ACTICOA chocolate from Barry-Callebaut. You'll find more info about this on the blog and you can download the project brochure in 15 languages and send it to the world. Feel also free to make a donation for this Mobile Hospital.

FRA: Je suis de retour au boulot après une semaine de maladie depuis le retour du mois passé au Népal. J’ai commencé à planifier les expéditions pour les 2 prochaines années. Voici déjà quelques photos du camp de base de l’Everest. J’y ai rencontré Apa sherpa, qui vient de réussir sa 19ème ascension de l’Everest hier (personne ne l’a gravi autant de fois que lui). A côté de nous, Joseph de l’expédition "Chocolate Sherpa". Malheureusement, N. a eu le mal des montagnes 2 heures avant d’arriver au camp de base et a fait demi-tour. Moi aussi j’avais la maladie depuis 3 jours déjà mais j’ai dû être plus chanceux et j’ai pu terminer la marche commencée à Katmandou. J’ai donc parcouru plus de 400km et l’équipe à organisé la plus haute dégustation de chocolat au Monde pour récolter des fonds pour le projet de l’hôpital mobile. Le chocolat était évidemment Belge et c’était le nouveau chocolat super anti-oxydant ACTICOA de Barry-Callebaut. Vous trouverez de plus amples informations sur le blog de l’expédition où vous pouvez télécharger la plaquette du projet en 15 langues et l’envoyer au monde entier. ENG: I finished my Tassie adventure completely skinny, exhausted and sick. Here's 1photo taken on 08/02/2007 in Hobart by Nathalie Mundt and 4 photos taken by Chris Bray in Sydney a day later. You can see my muscles as I had no fat anymore and my right foot and calf are swollen from the trench foot disease.
