Aleksander Doba kayaked the Atlantic

EN: I drove from Brussels to Le Conquet (Brest) in France to greet Polish adventurer Alex Doba who finished his 3rd kayak transatlantic in exactly 110 days (16 May - 3 Sept). He was happy to see his friends, team and the warm Welcome of the Bretons. He found a piece of grass to end his trip as to him the concrete of the harbor is not real land. He will be 71 years "young" as he says in a few days.

FR: J'ai roulé de Bruxelles au Conquet (Brest) pour accueillir Alek Doba, le kayakiste et aventurier Polonais qui a terminé sa troisième traversée de l'Atlantique en kayak en exactement 110 jours (16 Mai au 3 Sept). Il était content de revoir ses amis, son équipe et heureux de l'accueil chaleureux que les Bretons lui ont offert. Il trouva une pelouse pour s'y coucher et toucher le continent.Il refuse le béton du port. Il aura 71 ans dans quelques jours.

Some good press and news

EN: I've been interviewed on TV5monde in the show L'invité. Also there is an article in the September issue of ASadventure mag (NL/FR) and a podcast on We Need More Heroes. I'm also starting something new with monthly adventure films to be shown in Brussels. This is to build up a community and go towards the first real Brussels Adventure Film Festival called the BRAFF. More news coming this fall on the FB page.

FR:  J'ai été interviewé sur TV5monde dans l'émission L'invité. Il y a aussi un article dans le magazine AS adventure de l'édition de Septembre. (FR et NL) et un podcast sur We Need More Heroes (EN). Je commence un nouveau projet de montrer des films d'aventure à Bruxelles. Je vais faire grandir une communauté et aller vers le premier vrai festival de film d'aventure de Bruxelles, le BRAFF. Friedrichshafen Outdoor Show Blogger

EN: In less than two weeks I'm in Friedrichshafen to visit the fair as usual and this time I'll also be there as official blogger. My aim is to connect, share news about products and interview & Meet Explorers and Adventurers.

FR: Dans moins de deux semaines je serai à Friedrichshafen pour visiter la foire et cette fois aussi je serai bloggeur officiel. Mon objectif est de faire des contacts, partager les nouveaux produits et interviewer des explorateurs et aventuriers.

Paris National Geographic Exhibition - Christian Clot Adaptation

 

EN: I had a busy day in Paris. An interview at TV5monde and a visit to the exhibition of National Geographics. Then I went to visit my psychology-scientist to discuss the next steps in "Decision taking under stress in extreme environment" and ended the evening with the presentation of the expedition ADAPTATION of Christian Clot where my friend Jeremy Roumian (Outdoor shop Tribu Outdoor) is leading the operations. Happy to catch up a bit with adventurers / friends.

FR: J'ai eu une journée très dense à Paris. Une interview à TV5monde et une visite de l'exposition du National Geographics. Puis, j'ai discuté avec ma psy-scientifique les étapes suivantes du projet "Prise de décision sous stress en environnement extrême" et une soirée relax à la présentation de l'expédition ADAPTATION de Christian Clot où j'ai revu mon ami Jéremy Roumian qui est directeur des Opérations. Heureux de revoir des amis / aventuriers.

TEDxLiege - State of Adventure today

EN:  For my third TEDx talk, this on in Liège, I spoke in French about how we should think when setting goals and aim higher. I opened my talk with Mount Everest and described what I learnt during the three deserts I crossed.

FR: Pour ma troisième conférence TEDx, à Liège, j'ai parlé en Français de comment on doit penser lorsqu'on fixe des objectifs et viser plus haut. J'ai ouvert mon intervention par le Mont Everest et j'ai ensuite décrit ce que j'ai appris lors de traversée des trois déserts que j'ai traversé.

Rwenzori Mountains and the last African glaciers

EN: I went to see the adventure and scientific conference about the expedition of Dr. Denis Samyn. He was joined by Richard Mardens to shoot photos and film in the Rwenzori Mountains at the border of Uganda and Congo.

FR: J'ai été voir une conférence aventure et scientifique de l'expéditions du Dr. Denis Samyn. Il était accompagné de Richard Mardens qui a filmé et photographié les montagnes Rwenzori à la frontière entre l'Ouganda et le Congo.

PCT Speed Record Karel Sabbe

EN: Belgian trail runner Karel Sabbe beat the speed record of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), 4227km in 52 days 8 hours and 25 minutes. I asked him and he agreed it would be possible to run it under the 50 days mark.

FR: Le coureur belge d'ultratrail Karel Sabbe a battu le record de vitesse du Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), 4227km en 52 jours 8 heures et 25 minutes. Je lui ai demandé et il était d'accord qu'il soit possible de courir le PCT en moins de 50 jours.

Explorers Club Annual Dinner - ECAD2017

EN: For the first time since I'm a Fellow of the Explorers Club, I went to the 113th ECAD -Explorers Club Annual Dinner- in New York on Ellis Island. I met with very interesting explorers and ate unusual cooked meals done by the chef.

Among others, I met briefly with Ran Fiennes or Captain Paul Watson.

Met people who inspire me like Sylvia Earle or Don Walsh. Also happy to re-connect with Bertrand Piccard.

FR: J'ai assiste à mon premier ECAD, le gala annuel du club des Explorateurs à New York sur l'île de Ellis. J'ai recontré pas mal d'explorateurs intéressants et mangé des plats inhabituels préparés par un chef.

Parmi plein d'autres, j'ai pu rencontrer brièvement Ran Fiennes ou le capitaine Paul Watson.

Et aussi des personnes qui m'inspirent beaucoup comme Don Walsh ou Sylvia Earle et aussi Bertrand Piccard.

On stage at Banff festival

EN: As every year I go to the BANFF film tour in Belgium and I was happy to see 2 friends on stage Glaciologist Denis Samyn and Richard Biologist Mardens who come from the same province.

This Saturday, I went on stage to explain to the audience why I received the award "European Adventurer of the Year 2016"

FR: Comme chaque année, je vais au BANFF film tour en Belgique et j'étais content d'y voir 2 amis sur scène, le glaciologue Denis Samyn et le biologiste Richard Mardens qui viennent de la même province que moi.

Ce samedi, j'ai été sur scène pour expliquer au public pourquoi j'ai reçu le "prix de l'aventurier de l'année 2016 (Europe)"

Award European Adventurer of the Year 2016

EN: An international jury (not all on the photo) has selected me to win the prestigious award of "European Adventurer of the Year 2016". I'm proud of this recognition and of course I'll continue doing breakthrough expeditions in the coming years. This was at ISPO 2017.

FR: Un jury international (pas tous sur la photo) m'a choisi pour le prix prestigieux de l'Aventurier Européen de l'année 2016. Je suis fier de cette reconnaissance et je continuerai à faire des expéditions uniques dans les prochaines années. Cela se passait à ISPO 2017.
