On TV and Polish explorer Marek Kaminski

EN: I was in Warsaw last week. I visited the city and its history. I cannot see if it changed as I only know the Vistula river that is still wild. I took the train to the Gdansk area to meet again with legendary explorer Marek Kaminski who I met in 2012 at the end of the Poland Trek expedition. We are friends and kept in touch here and there over the years.

No progress in the film unfortunately.

I was invited as panelist in this show .DOC on Pickx Proximus. We spoke about running and going beyond limits.

 

 

FR: J'était à Varsovie la semaine dernière. Il a visité la ville et son histoire. Il ne peut pas voir si elle a changé car il ne connaît que la Vistule qui est encore sauvage. Il a pris le train pour la région de Gdansk pour retrouver le légendaire explorateur Marek Kaminski qu'il avait rencontré en 2012 à la fin de l'expédition Poland Trek. Ils sont amis et sont restés en contact ici et là au fil des ans.

Malheureusement, le film n'a pas progressé.

J'ai été invité en tant que panéliste dans cette émission .DOC sur Pickx Proximus. Nous avons parlé de la course à pied et du dépassement de soi.

Bike Film tour in Brussels

EN: I went to the first Brussels edition of the Bike film Tour. I was surprised by the quality of the chosen films and enjoyed them all very much.

FR:J'ai participé à la première édition bruxelloise du Bike film Tour. J'ai été surpris par la qualité des films choisis et je les ai tous beaucoup appréciés.

 

Climbing 3 mountains in Azerbaijan

EN: Before going to Baku, I contacted Abuzar Aghazada, mountain guide from HikeAway.az as I wanted to climb Mount Bazardüzü (4466m), the highest peak in Azerbaijan. We got along pretty well on the phone and I knew he'd be a great guide with my idea of going light and documenting the climb. We met in Baku before I went to the Karabakh roadtrip and we met again in his mountain outdoor shop in Baku to prepare the trip. The national park opens normally on 15 April each year but due to heavy snow, the army opened it on the 1st of May. We took taxi transport to the UNESCO village of Khinalug (Xınalıq). From the village we did an acclimatization summit walking up to Khari-bulbul Peak (2783m). The next morning, we were the first to enter the park with a 4WD driving us further then we walked up to the basecamp where we relaxed, set up the tent and walked a bit higher for the sunset where we could see the 3 highest summits of Azerbaijan in the distance. We woke up early in the morning and we scaled 2 summits nearby:Heydar Aliyev (3751m) and Ataturk (3756m). We rested and had lunch at camp and started our way down back to the village and by late evening a taxi drove us back to Baku. I hope to return one day to climb Bazardüzü. For sure it will be later in the season to avoid too much snow.

FR: Avant de partir pour Bakou, j'ai contacté Abuzar Aghazada, guide de montagne chez HikeAway.az, car je souhaitais gravir le mont Bazardüzü (4466m), le plus haut sommet d'Azerbaïdjan. Nous nous sommes bien entendus au téléphone et j'ai compris qu'il serait un excellent guide pour mon projet d'alpinisme léger et documenté. Nous nous sommes rencontrés à Bakou avant que je parte pour mon roadtrip au Karabakh, puis nous nous sommes revus dans son magasin de matériel outdoor et de montagne à Bakou pour préparer le voyage. Le parc national ouvre normalement le 15 avril chaque année, mais en raison des fortes chutes de neige, l'armée l'a ouvert le 1er mai. Nous avons pris un taxi pour nous rendre au village de Khinalug (Xınalıq), classé au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO. Depuis le village, nous avons fait une ascension d'acclimatation jusqu'au pic Khari-bulbul (2783m). Le lendemain matin, nous avons été les premiers à entrer dans le parc avec un 4x4 qui nous a conduits plus loin, puis nous avons marché jusqu'au camp de base où nous nous sommes reposés, avons monté la tente et sommes montés un peu plus haut pour admirer le coucher de soleil, d'où nous pouvions voir les trois plus hauts sommets d'Azerbaïdjan au loin. Nous nous sommes réveillés tôt le matin et avons gravi deux sommets à proximité : Heydar Aliyev (3751m) et Ataturk (3756m). Nous nous sommes reposés et avons déjeuné au camp, puis nous avons entamé notre descente vers le village. En fin de soirée, un taxi nous a ramenés à Bakou. J'espère revenir un jour pour escalader le Bazardüzü. Ce sera certainement plus tard dans la saison, afin d'éviter trop de neige.
